The Universal Health Visiting Pathway in Scotland: Pre-birth to pre-school

The resource has been designed to be flexible and interactive to support learners in practice by allowing them to access the resource at key stages of development as outlined in the Universal Health Visiting Pathway.

In each section of the Universal Health Visiting Pathway there is information on expected speech, language and communication development, key areas of reflection on the role of the health visitor/family nurse and the strategies and interventions to promote speech, language and communication for children aged 0-5 years.

Remember children do not always develop at the same time and in the same way. This guide describes how a child might develop speech, language and communication at different ages.
